Sustainability efforts by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) helped reduce carbon emissions by 21 percent in 2021, which overachieved the target of 16 percent set as per the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2021 by a whopping 31.25 percent.

This was part of DEWA’s Ninth Sustainability Report 2021, which highlighted its efforts and achievements in supporting sustainable development in all aspects of its operations. It also works as an introduction to all partners, relevant entities and stakeholders to its sustainability practices.

Based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, it highlights DEWA’s commitment to the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which includes human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

It also demonstrates the company’s progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and records its efforts in implementing projects despite the challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.
